NEGAUNEE -- A move to save money means a restructuring of Upper Michigan post offices. It'll impact eight post offices.
According to a post office spokesperson in Milwaukee, the moves are called Delivery Unit Relocations.
Simply put, the post offices that we all use, won't change. However, the carriers will be moving their operations to a new post office.
Changing August 29, carriers at the Hermansville Post Office will work out of Powers.
Likely changing at the end of September, Hancock carriers will work out of Houghton, Negaunee carriers move to Ishpeming, and Bessemer letter carriers will be based in Ironwood. These moves are currently under review, but will most likely take place.
Officials say this has already been done 53 times in the Midwest area. It's saved the Postal Service $2.4 million. They say it also improves efficiency and streamlines hours for clerks.
Customers won't see any change as hours and services will remain the same.
