IRON MOUNTAIN/NIAGARA, WI -- Michigan and Wisconsin share a border.  Now they share something else: teachers.

This fall, two Iron Mountain educators are splitting their school days between Michigan and Niagara, Wisconsin.

"They needed two teachers.  They needed an industrial arts teacher for half-time, and they needed a music teacher for half-time.  When they asked us if we had any teachers available, we did," said Scott McClur, Iron Mountain Public Schools Superintendent.

Niagara Public Schools Superintendent, Dan Nett, says the deal just made sense.

"We didn't need full-time teachers in certain subject areas.  And they provide us an opportunity...to provide more quality education for our students," said Nett.

Both school systems were ready and willing, but before the teacher sharing was made official, it required a signature from Governor Granholm.  The Governor signed, and she says she's quite excited about this new relationship between the neighboring states.

"What a great, innovative, creative practice, and I hope it leads to other similar sharing arrangements," said Governor Granholm.

This teacher sharing is a first of its kind.  Randy Evosevich is the industrial arts teacher in the deal.  He says he's just happy to be teaching.

"Versus sitting in a study hall or doing things that you weren't trained to do or want to do...this is exciting for me, because I get to teach students the skills that I feel are very valuable in life," said Evosevich.

Both superintendents say they agree with Governor Granholm; they hope this interstate teacher sharing is a sign of things to come.
