PETOSKEY -- It happened at 4:20 p.m. on Charlevoix Road (US-31) near Lake Grove Road. Police investigators say two semis, a large pickup truck with a utility trailer and a passenger car were involved in the accident. They say a preliminary investigation shows that the passenger vehicle driven by a male driver crossed the centerline into the path of a semi driven by a 47-year-old man from Prescott. The semi driver veered left to avoid the car and hit the pickup which was traveling behind the car.
The pickup was driven by 25-year-old Daniel Firman. 18-year-old Christian Hunley and 17-year-old Aaron Hunley were passengers. All three are from Gaylord. They were all killed in the accident. Another passenger, 17-year-old Andrew Erickson of Elmira was taken to Munson Medical Center, where he later died.
The passenger car involved with the first semi spun out of control into the path of the second semi driven by a man from White Cloud. The semi hit the car and left the road coming to a rest in a wooded area. The two semi truck drivers received only minor injuries. The name of the at fault driver of the passenger car is not being released at this time.
US-31 was closed for about 12 hours while the accident was cleared and investigated. The road was re-opened around 4:00 a.m. Friday.
