Greg Reed and Greg Dodge turned themselves into police Tuesday

CHARLEVOIX -- Two more people are facing charges in connection with a multi-million dollar embezzlement scheme.

Tuesday, Greg Reed and Greg Dodge turned themselves into police in Charlevoix County and now each face one count of Conspiracy to Embezzle.

This is in connection with a scheme that police say embezzled nearly $2M from Great Lakes Energy in Boyne City.

Greg Reed's father, George, along with Robin Stewart of Gaylord and his wife Shelley Stewart are already facing a series of felony charges in connection with the case.

Police say they were notified in September of 2008 by Great Lakes Energy after being tipped off about fraudulent action taking place by Robin Stewart, an 18-year veteran of the company and supervisor of the vegetation department.

"His responsibility was to approve and to enter into agreements with these tree companies," said D./Sgt. Gwen White-Erickson of the Michigan State Police told 7&4 News earlier this year.

One such company was G&J Tree Incorporated owned by George Reed of Florida. Police say Greg Reed and Greg Dodge worked for G&J Tree Inc.

According to the complaint filed in court, police say Stewart was knowingly approving fraudulent invoices from G&J Tree Services going back to 2006 up until September 2008 when he was fired.

"As most embezzlements start, there was a little bit in 2006, more in 2007 and more in 2008," White-Erickson said.

Police say Stewart's wife, Shelley, was aware of what was going on and they found bank records and money order receipts connecting the three.

No follow up court date has yet been scheduled for Greg Reed and Greg Dodge. Both are free on bond. The investigation remains open and active.
