Hundreds of motorcycle riders from across northern Michigan are getting revved up for a special ride on Sunday.
Registration was held Saturday for the annual "Ride for Father Fred" which kicks off Sunday morning. For nearly two decades riders from across the region have been participating in the popular event which raises money for food and utility assistance for local families in need. Close to five hundred people are expected to participate in the ride which will take them along the bay up to the Old Mission Peninsula.
"It's just a great thing for the community. Everybody knows that a lot of people are struggling this year and it's a great organization to be able to give to people that need help," said organizer Sherry Purkiss.
"I love to ride and it's a good opportunity to give back to the community," said rider Jerry Lown.
Organizers say they're well on their way to surpassing last year's total of more than 20--thousand dollars. The annual Harley Ride starts Sunday morning at 11am. Registration for the event begins at 9am at Classic Motors Sports in Traverse City.
