Firefighters on Beaver Island become the first in the state to use video tele-conferencing to complete training. Close to 20--firefighters finished their training exercises on Saturday using tele-conferencing technology to complete the certification. During the eight-month course firefighters attended more than 300 hours of classes covering topics including firefighting, hazardous materials, weapons of mass destruction, and jaws of life. The Charlevoix fire captain says each student passed their practical exam and is confident they also passed the written portion.
