New hangout offers free activities for Traverse City area teenagers

Teens in Traverse City will soon have a new place to play, and it's all free.

The Third Level Crisis Center is getting together with "Studio 7" to offer new programs for teens. Program leaders are calling a one-stop space to keep teens occupied and give them something fun to do.

They'll be open every Monday and Thursday afternoon for fun, friendship, and support. Coordinators say they launched the teen center, because teens themselves identified the need in the community.

From music, dance, and art... to movies, video games, and karaoke, there's lot of free fun in store. Karaoke night is coming up this Friday from 6 to 9 pm, that's for kids ages 11 to 14. And the first teen drop in day is this coming Monday from 2 pm until 5 pm, and that's open to *all teenagers from 13 to 18.

The center is located on 14th Street across from the State Police Post in Traverse City.

While there's no official name yet for the Studio 7 youth center, those running the facility say they hope the teens will help come up with a name for it.
