Thursday the first confirmed case of the emerald ash borer was discovered in Schoolcraft County's Inwood Township. The Michigan Department of Agriculture says the infestation is near one found recently on the edge of Delta County. Schoolcraft is now the fourth county in the UP to have confirmed cases of the emerald ash borer. The destructive bug has already been found in Mackinaw, Delta, and Houghton Counties. The insects' larvae destroy ash trees by feeding on the trees nutrient transport systems, preventing food from traveling to the upper part of the tree.
