Michigan State Police are investigating a case of counterfeit payroll checks that someone tried to cash in a dozen different communities including several in northern Michigan.

State Troopers say the suspects were wearing hospital scrubs when they cashed the phony checks at Glen's Market Stores in Kalkaska, Mancelona, Boyne City, and Petoskey. Investigators say they also tried to cash the checks in Houghton Lake, but were turned away. State Police say the suspects are trying to pass the payroll checks from three different employers. Investigators from Isabella County down to the Detroit suburbs are also looking at the *same suspects for similar crimes.
