GRAND RAPIDS (AP) -- Gov. Rick Snyder says he will host an economic-development summit in March to come up with ways to fix a mismatch between the supply and demand for jobs in Michigan.

Snyder told a group of lawmakers and editors Friday that unemployment, at 8.9 percent, remains too high in the state. He says the problem is not a lack of jobs, but a "broken system" of connecting people to job openings.

The governor is promising to bring people together to make Michigan the "very best place" to match talent and jobs.

Snyder spoke at the annual meeting of the Michigan Press Association in Grand Rapids. He says he'll deliver his next proposed budget on Feb. 7 and hold another summit in April on education.
