The big snowfall overnight is bringing big smiles to local winter sports enthusiasts. Large crowds turned out at most ski resorts around the area.

This weekend, Boyne Mountain is expecting the largest crowd they've had all year.

"Drive safe getting here and once you do, have fun," Boyne Mountain General Manager Ed Grice said.

Boyne Mountain representatives say they received around 10 inches overnight and it helped coat all of their hills. They say the snow is perfect for any winter sports.  The first layer that fell was heavy and wet and this morning was topped off with a cold fluffy layer.

This is the perfect time, it's couldn't have come at a better time for the holiday, for having a white Christmas and adding to our base to have great riding and skiing conditions,” BOYNE Communications Director Erin Ernst said.

At Crystal Mountain, they received 13 inches, and opened up late this morning.  Nub's Nob in Harbor Springs is reporting 15 inches this morning and they are expecting more.  They have 30 runs and 5 lifts open today.
