TRAVERSE CITY -- Acme could have a new Goodwill retail and donation center in 2013 if the application by Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan before the Acme Planning Commission, April 23, 2012 is approved.

The application, submitted by Goodwill, is for the demolition of the former Real Estate One office on M 72 just south of US 31 and construction of a new 12,000 sq ft retail and donation center.

Goodwill identified the location because of increasing demand and demographics in the area.

Thousands of people from outside Traverse City are forced to make the trek into town to do their Goodwill retail shopping. In fact, last year alone the Traverse City location had more than 213,000 transactions, totally more than 2.5 million dollars.

Goodwill Industries Director of Marketing and communications Ruth Blick says, "Our South Airport store in Traverse City is extremely busy -- actually the number one sales store of goodwill in the state of Michigan. People who come here know its hard to donate, its hard to get in and out of the store, difficult to find parking spaces, we just want to make it more convenient for our shoppers and donors..."

The new location, will employ 15 to 20 individuals, and provide residents in the surrounding area with a convenient location to donate new and gently used items and an affordable shopping opportunity.

This will mark Goodwill's 5th retail location in Northern Michigan.

Revenue generated from the retail operations support Goodwill's mission by providing funding for programs and services throughout Northern Michigan.
