TRAVERSE CITY -- Corrections officers across the state are planning to protest over what they call "dangerous cuts" to the department of corrections.

At the beginning of April, prisons ended 24-7 perimeter patrols and eliminated the resident unit officer classification. The plan will save millions of dollars, but corrections officers say it puts workers and the public at risk.

Thursday afternoon those corrections officers plan to picket in downtown Traverse City to voice their concerns.

The informational picket will take place Thursday at 4:00pm, at Front and Union Streets in downtown Traverse City.

Pickets are being held around the state over several weeks. Those already scheduled include Ionia, Jackson, Muskegon, St. Louis, Detroit, Adrian, Marquette, Baraga, Munising, Newberry, Kinross, Saginaw, Whitmore Lake, Carson City, Ojibway and Traverse City.
