Dr. Augusta Rosenthal-Thompson was the first female physician in Traverse City in the late 1800’s. She had her own practice at the age of 25, and worked in Traverse City for 25 years.

Situated in Leelanau County, with a population that's never really reached above 1,000, the village of Empire has gone through several transformations. It was settled in the mid-1850s by John Leroux and named after one of two ships that ran aground in the region.

While the Pilgrims were making their way on the fringe of the "New World", a tiny settlement was already laying down the foundations for it's future. Sault Ste. Marie can lay claim to being one of the oldest establishments in the Midwest. As you may imagine, it has a history that runs as strong as the river which has helped shaped it.
