In a race of speed and endurance, snowmobiles revved up and ripped through Sault Ste. Marie Saturday for the 44th annual I-500 race.

The I-500 is the largest snowmobile racing event in the world and it's a cash-cow for winter tourism in Sault Ste. Marie.
The only problem: winter is playing games with the event this year.

The I-500 Snowmobile Race is 43 years strong and there's no doubt it strengthens local businesses bottom lines.
One business said the I-500 is their busiest weekend, another said this weekend is a close second behind Christmas.
