Thursday, September 27, 2012  Dr. Augusta Rosenthal-Thompson was the first female physician in Traverse City in the late 1800’s. She had her own practice at the age of 25, and worked in Traverse City for 25 years.

Thursday, September 20, 2012  Emilia Schaub was born in 1891 to German immigrants in a log cabin in Leelanau County. She was Michigan’s first woman to be elected and serve as county prosecutor.

Thursday, September 13, 2012  Art Duhamel was a member of The Grand Traverse Band of Native Americans in Peshawbestown. He was also a fisherman by trade. He played an important role in getting the Grand Traverse Band of Chippewa and Ottawa Indians their fishing rights and recognition as a tribe by the U.S. government. The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians gained their federal recognition by the U.S. government May 27, 1980.
