    Thursday, September 13, 2012  Art Duhamel was a member of The Grand Traverse Band of Native Americans in Peshawbestown. He was also a fisherman by trade. He played an important role in getting the Grand Traverse Band of Chippewa and Ottawa Indians their fishing rights and recognition as a tribe by the U.S. government. The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians gained their federal recognition by the U.S. government May 27, 1980.
