Dr. Augusta Rosenthal-Thompson was the first female physician in Traverse City in the late 1800’s. She had her own practice at the age of 25, and worked in Traverse City for 25 years.

Art Duhamel was a member of The Grand Traverse Band of Native Americans in Peshawbestown. He was also a fisherman by trade. He played an important role in getting the Grand Traverse Band of Chippewa and Ottawa Indians their fishing rights and recognition as a tribe by the U.S. government. The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians gained their federal recognition by the U.S. government May 27, 1980.

The "Diversifying Michigan Manufacturers" summit at the Hagerty Center brought out more than 100 northern Michigan manufacturers all to expand their markets. The summit was hosted by the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. The goal is to diversify local manufacturing with other areas including: aerospace, defense contracting and medical devices.
