TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- Reporting live from last place, this is Brody O’Connell checking in.

While it was my intention to start this blog at the beginning of Swingshift and the Stars, I am embarking on this journalistic endeavor in the final week leading up to our second to last dance. But hey, like my footwork, better late than never.

Let’s catch up to speed. I have danced the East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing and the Cha-cha, which was my favorite thus far.

Feedback on my performance has varied, and despite my Detroit Lions-like ranking I can’t help but to feel like I’m winning. Individually, I have helped raise over $1,200 for the local chapter of the American Red Cross. As a group, we have raised over $59,000 for local charities. And personally, I have embraced a motto that hangs magnetically attached to my refrigerator door: “Dance like nobody is watching.”

Being a “star” for Swingshift has granted me the opportunity to grow as a dancer and as a person. Never underestimate what giving to others can do for your own state of mind. Even on a bad day, I know my efforts may help provide a good day to somebody I don’t even know. That’s why when you fall…you just got to keep on dancing…even if people are watching.

I look forward to updating this blog after our next dance.

On Friday, we dance the Rumba. I am excited. Cool lifts. Come check it out if you can.

Keep on dancing.
