The Grand Traverse Conservation District's sale is a great way to help preserve native species and add spring color to the garden.

TRAVERSE CITY -- Check out the press release below.

Press Release

The Grand Traverse Conservation District is Kicking-off their Native Plant Rescue Program on April 28 at 6pm, at the Boardman River Nature Center.  Individuals will learn about native plants, the Native Plant Rescue program and how they can get involved.  A guest speaker, Dick Fidler, will make a presentation about "Spring Wildflowers of the Northern Hardwoods".

Digs will begin in the next couple of weeks and will be weather dependent.  Individuals who know of sites slated for development or would like to volunteer for the Native Plant Rescue Program should contact Jon Prins at the Grand Traverse Conservation District.  He can be reached by calling 231.941.0960 or email jprins@gtcd.

The Native Plant Rescue Program works with willing landowners to save native plants that would otherwise be destroyed.  Teams of volunteers from the community travel to these properties slated for development to identify, properly remove, and transport the native plants.  To date, more than 2,000 native plants have been rescued in Grand Traverse County as a result of the program.  These rescued native plants are then sold at the Grand Traverse Conservation District’s Annual Native Plant Sale (May 16 & 17).  Proceeds from the sale support the work of the Grand Traverse Conservation District.  The program is sponsored in part by Traverse City Light and Power.
