TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City Area Public Schools will be making some changes to its policy on bullying.

In a Fact Finder Report earlier this year 7 & 4's Diana Fairbanks spoke with a parent of a middle school student who was pushing for a stricter policy.

Andy Marek says his son was tormented at school for nearly two months before he found out about it.

While TCAPS leaders say they take bullying complaints very seriously, their written policy is only a few paragraphs long with no mention of contacting parents or specific disciplinary action.

The proposed new policy has a few changes, but Andy Marek says it's not enough to protect students.

"I think they need to address more of what's causing the bullying, address the issue of consequences for the bully and make sure that the child that has been bullied has some kind of recourse or something to look into to help ease long term developmental issues that can come from it," said Marek.

The meeting about the proposed changes will be discussed at the Board of Education's meeting on Monday at 6:00 PM.
