PETOSKEY -- UpNorthLive facebook fans voted to hear more about an area kayaking event to raise money for Camp Daggett in Petoskey.

If you love kayaking, join the team for the 3rd annual Kayak for a Cause on Walloon Lake, Saturday and Sunday, July 23-24.  The event supports the Camp Daggett Adventure Center.

From 9:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, July 23-24, the Camp Daggett Adventure Center's Director, Karen Marietti, will lead the team of up to 30 kayakers around Walloon Lake in a fundraising effort for the Adventure Center to raise money for programs and scholarships for participants of the Adventure Education program.

Join the team, supply your own kayaking equipment and collect a minimum of $200 in pledges. Kayak rental is also available for $20 for the weekend from Ryde Marine, an $80 value and they offer free delivery to and from the launch site! Lessons for new kayakers are available on July 21 at Ryde Marine on Crooked Lake at 6:30 p.m. Contact Ryde Marine at 231-347-8273.

Kayakers will follow a specific route around the lake led by Karen, and have scheduled rest stops.

Since 1997, the CDAC has welcomed over 51,000 participants to its teambuilding programs designed to encourage teamwork and group cooperation toward common goals, improve self confidence and self esteem, and foster a greater acceptance for diversity among people.

Funds raised from this event are used to assist area schools in bringing students out to participate in the CDAC programs. Camp Daggett has been serving youth and families for 86 years, through its popular summer camp and year-round activities and events.
