GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY -- Dozens of animal lovers headed out for a special winter dog walk in Traverse City on Saturday, to walk their pooches for a good cause.

The event was hosted by the Pet Sitters Network North.  A group of area professional pet sitters.

Nearly 50 dog lovers showed up to walk their dogs, big and small, on the trails at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center.  The theme of the walk was "Save Our Strays," and was designed to encourage people to adopt homeless pets.

The Pet Sitters Network North group also collected donations for the Cherryland Humane Society, hoping to raise awareness on a possible partnership between the humane society and the Grand Traverse Animal Control Department.

"Contact your county commissioner and support this agreement with animal control and the humane society," said Cherryland Humane Society President, Dave Burke.  "The officials of Grand Traverse County have worked hard to come up with this agreement.  We've worked with them too.  Now we need the commissioners to approve it and if they know it's in support of the general public, that will help tremendously."

Members from Pet Sitters Network North matched all of the donations up to $200.
