By late Saturday evening, a messy mix of rain/snow/freezing rain will sweep across Northern Michigan.

NORTHERN MICHIGAN -- While Friday and much of Saturday are shaping up nicely in the weather department, rain/snow and even the chance for freezing rain will sweep in later in the weekend.
High pressure sits almost overhead Friday allowing Northern Michigan to sit underneath partly/mostly cloudy skies with dry conditions. That will be the case through Saturday afternoon. Clouds will be on the increase Saturday from the west with all of the area clouding up completely by Saturday evening.
The next storm system for us sweeps in late Saturday evening through Sunday. We may see a few snowflakes in the U.P./Straits region later Saturday afternoon, but the bulk of precipitation holds off until Saturday night. With south winds, temperatures will be warm enough for mainly rain across the Lower Peninsula into Sunday, but interior spots of Northern Lower Michigan could see some freezing rain mixing in setting up slippery roads. Across the Eastern Upper Peninsula, it may remain cold enough for primarily snow with some rain mixing in at times near the Great Lakes. Snow amounts will be in the 1-3" range there.
Rain will continue into Sunday with snow mixing back in later in the day as a cold front drops in. This system will move east of us by Monday with next week looking relatively quiet with passing clouds at times and high temperatures in the 30's.
