MONTCALM CO. --

A 34-year-old man from Comstock Park is facing several charges Monday, after investigators say he crashed into a tree and then sped away from police while his young son was sitting on his lap behind the wheel.

Montcalm County Sheriff's Deputies report that the Comstock Park man refused to stop when signaled after his 1994 Chevrolet Suburban was seen with heavy front end damage.

Deputies' investigation revealed that the suspect had struck a tree with his vehicle while he was allowing his four-year-old son to sit on his lap and drive unrestrained.

After a short pursuit,  the suspect refused to comply with the deputy's orders and a fight ensued, resulting in the Deputy having minor injuries.

The suspect was arrested Saturday for Fleeing and Eluding, Resisting and Obstructing, Driving While License Suspended, Transporting Open Intoxicants in a Motor Vehicle, and Child Endangerment.

The suspect is awaiting arraignment and additional charges may be filed.
