The deputies involved in the shooting that killed 56-year-old Gary Welch are now on paid administrative leave.

The two deputies from Crawford County and one from Grand Traverse County will be on paid leave as the situation is involved, which is routine practice in this type of situation.

The deputies from Crawford County will also be receiving counseling.

Meanwhile, reports show that Gary Welch had a previous run-in with law enforcement. In November, Welch was arrested for possession of marijuana stemming from a warrant issued by the State Police in Gaylord.
