TRAVERSE CITY -- Police broke up a meth lab this morning at a Traverse City motel.

Police say the incident happened around 8:00 am when the Traverse Narcotics Team executed a search warrant on a room at the Shadowland Motel in the 300 block of Munson Avenue in Traverse City.

During the search, members of the narcotics team seized drug paraphernalia, marijuana, as well as chemicals and equipment used in the production of methamphetamine, according to the Traverse City Police Department.

Due to the dangers of handling methamphetamine, it took authorities nearly three hours to properly collect the hazardous materials.

"The real danger of methamphetamine is two fold," said Capt. Brian Heffner of the Traverse City Police Department. "One is in the production of it or the cooking of it and the other factor is in the use. It's very highly addictive, and very dangerous to make, very dangerous to cook. It's flammable, and explosive."

One woman was arrested in the motel room on an unrelated misdemeanor warrant, but police say they expect more arrests throughout the ongoing investigation of methamphetamine manufacturing.

The Traverse City Police Department and the Traverse Narcotics Team are asking the public to contact them if you have any information on the use or production of methamphetamine. Police warn this is a highly dangerous drug both to use and to manufacture.

Information regarding this case can be left anonymously at the Silent Observer Tip line 231-947-8477 or you can call the Traverse Narcotics Team directly at 231-922-0993.

7&4 News is on the scene and will have more information as it becomes available.
