It's the season of thanks and giving.

This holiday, the Salvation Army is in desperate need of volunteers to help out with it's largest and most important fundraiser of the year, the Red Kettle Campaign.

They say there's a shortage of bell ringer volunteers this season and they need the public's help to fix that.

This year the goal in Cadillac is to raise $77,000 during the Red Kettle Campaign. That's $2000 more than last season. But in order to make that happen, more bell ringers are needed.

Captain Mark Nance says there are currently 5 people signed up as volunteers to ring bells, with 7 locations to cover.

"It's proving to be difficult this year and a little nerve racking," Nance said.

Traverse City is facing a similar problem.

Captain Daren Spencer says the Salvation Army is Traverse City is around 60% of where it "should be."

"You can see it in the numbers," Spencer said. "We're about $3000 behind where we were last year at this time."

If you're interested in volunteering to be a bell ringer this holiday season, you can apply at the main office which is located at 1239 Barlow St. in Traverse City.
