Carly Lewis family touched by generosity
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Carly Lewis tragedy continues to bring together people from all over the community and even from out of state.
While many of them never met Carly, her story and her life has touched their hearts.
From the day the Lewis family reported their daughter missing, people near and far united to help with the search. Even though Carly is gone that support continues.
Employees and customers at Glen's Market on 8th Street say Carly's murder broke their hearts, donating is just one way they can help the grieving family.
Store Director, Rocky Welch says, "We really felt we had to for one, this is the Glen's neighborhood, it is a community, and we are all neighbors, all friends, and the people are going we've got to do something."
Monday, Carly Lewis will be laid to rest, and Bay Area Transportation Authority is offering free rides to make sure everyone can pay their respects.
BATA Office Manager, Carrie Thompson says, "We want to make sure we're there to support the Carly Lewis family and make sure all kids that need a ride can get one."
The story of love and support doesn't end there; lanterns friends and family released at Carly's vigil were donated by a Grand Rapids business. Hundreds of T-shirts with Carly's face printed on them were made for anyone who wanted one, free of charge.
These small acts of kindness have touched the family, and they say each one serves as a reminder that love wins.
Thompson says, "It is really nice to see the whole community reaching out showing support in different ways."
Funeral expenses have also been taken care of.
