Religious website founder questions TCAPS bullying policy
TRAVERSE CITY -- The founder of an anti-gay, religious-based website has filed a Freedom of Information Act with Traverse City Area Public Schools.
Bill Wiesner who runs TCFamily.org, wants to see documents related to the districts funding, sponsorship, and correspondence with various gay-lesbian transgender groups. He is asking for the information because he thinks TCAPS is promoting homosexuality to kids.
The school board is considering adopting a section to the bullying policy that would protect students on the basis of sexual orientation.
TCAPS has five days to respond to the request, but can take up to ten days to produce the information. A spokesperson for the district says they don't ask about the intention of document requests and will have the information by April 7th. Wiesner says he will show his findings to anyone who is interested and would even consider suing the school district if they adopt the policy.
TCAPS School Board Members are expected to vote on the bullying policy at their April 11th meeting.
