Another meeting scheduled to discuss Wexford Co. funds
WEXFORD CO. -- Wexford County Commissioners are holding another special meeting to discuss their concerns with how money from the Sheriff's Office is being spent.
Wexford County Commissioner Terry Beck says he obtained copies of expenditures, some dating back to 2007, which concern him. He wants to know why money from the Animal Control Millage was being spent on jewelry, parties, and the undersheriff's hotel bill at a convention.
Last week, commissioners sent Sheriff Gary Finstrom a list of 39 questions and asked that he attend a special meeting. Sheriff Finstrom attended, but told commissioners that they did not give him a fair amount of time to provide answers to the questions. 7&4 News asked the Sheriff to comment on the allegations, but he didn't comment.
Some commissioners hope the issue can be resolved by the end of the year because several new commissioners will be taking office in the New Year, including the Undersheriff's wife.
The next meeting will be held next Wednesday, December 29th at the Courthouse in Cadillac. It starts at 6:00p.m.
Commissioners tell 7&4 News that the purpose of the meeting is to examine the Sheriff's oversight of budgetary centers for which he is the supervisory administrative officer.
