TRAVERSE CITY -- Hundreds of cancer survivors spent 24 straight hours this weekend walking, to remember those who have lost their battle to cancer and to celebrate the survivors who have beaten the odds.

All across the country communities were taking part in Relay for Life walks this weekend.

And this year, nearly 50 teams, 150 cancer survivors and more than 650 supporters came out to the Traverse City installment of the walk, which took place at the Grand Traverse Civic Center.

The event started Saturday morning at 10:00am and lasted 24 hours until 10:00 am Sunday morning,

Organizers say the mission is to raise awareness and money to be used for cancer research. The goal for this year's relay in Traverse City was to raise $85,000 dollars and organizers say they are confident that they will reach that goal.
