BURTON -- March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and a Genesee County-based hospital is offering screening kits for those at increased risk for the disease.
McLaren Cancer Institute is offering free colorectal cancer screening kits throughout the month. The kits are recommended for those with a family history of colorectal cancer, as well as anyone who's 50 and older.
The test is painless and can be self-administered with a minimal stool sample. It takes only a few minutes and can be performed in the privacy of a home. No fasting is required, and any medicine can be taken normally as prescribed.
More than 5,400 people took advantage of McLaren's free colorectal cancer screening program last year. You can take a colorectal cancer risk assessment to find out if you are at an increased risk for the disease.
