TRAVERSE CITY -- Chef Phil Murray, owner of Phil's on Front restaurant in Traverse City, said he tried running for President, but unfortunately, he didn't win. Now, off the campaign trail, he's proving he's still the commander-in-chief of his kitchen!

Phil is helping you create some of his favorite dishes in your own kitchen every week on UpNorthLive Tonight on ABC 29&8 at 6:30 p.m.

This week Phil shares his Parsnip Cake recipe:

Ingredients:

2 Parsnips peeled & grated

1/2 Onion peeled & grated

1 Potato peeled & grated

1 tsp. Garlic, chopped

Salt & pepper to taste

1 Egg

1/4 Cup Flour

Butter

Cooking Directions:

Mix all ingredients into large bowl. Once mixed well, add chopped garlic, a dash of salt and a pinch of black pepper. Mix once again. Get a saute pan hot, add and butter to coat, and place mixture on top. Shape mixture into a pancake with spatula. As it becomes golden brown and crispy, flip, and repeat on opposite side (approximately 2 minutes on each side).

Phil said he enjoys this dish with venison steaks, lamb chops or poached eggs with bearnaise sauce.

And don't forget, Phil's on Front will be open on Thanksgiving from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

If you can't wait until next week for a recipe, stop in at Phil's On Front in downtown Traverse City. Phil's on Front is located at 236 East Front Street.
