To kick off this October as breast cancer awareness month, more than 500 people laced up their sneakers for the 18th Annual Remembrance Run in Traverse City this past Saturday. Awareness wasn't only the idea but also support.

Nearly 600 people put on their pink this past weekend for the 2011 Remembrance Run at Timber Ridge Resort in Grand Traverse County. But before organizers could celebrate the success, an East Bay Township official showed up and served the event coordinator with zoning violation papers.

The Remembrance Run started in 1994. Organizers recognized there were many women in our community not only challenged with breast cancer, but also in need of financial assistance for non-medical aspects of their care. One of the Remembrance Run's founders, Michelle Witkop sat down with 7&4's Melissa Smith to talk about the event and the purpose behind it.
