LANSING -- The Michigan House is debating a bitterly contested right-to-work bill as pro-union demonstrators continue their noisy protest in Lansing.

Republicans control the House and are expected to approve the measure, which would apply to public sector workers. A bill dealing with private sector workers was passed last week. The Senate has OK'd both bills.

Gov. Rick Snyder has pledged to sign them and make Michigan the 24th right-to-work state.

The House has rejected a number of amendments offered by Democrats, including one that would strike an appropriation from the bill and thus allow a statewide referendum.
