Aquatic therapy involves various exercises designed to increase or decrease muscle relaxation and joint compression. However, like any form of exercise, you need certain goals in order to achieve success.
Here is a list of some goals for aquatic therapy.
1. Facilitate muscle relaxation.
2. Reduce edema, an abnormal accumulation of fluid beneath the skin or in one or more cavities of the body, secondary to hydrostatic pressure, which is the science of fluids at rest.
3. Improve stability while maintaining partial weight bearing.
4. Decrease the degenerative effects of an injury or disease.
5. Lower compressive forces in land-based therapy.
6. Provide for earlier entrance into the rehabilitation process, thus improving outcomes.
7. Increase performance level and confidence.
