CHARLEVOIX CO. -- The Charlevoix County Sheriff is warning citizens of a text message scam that is currently circulating.

Sheriff W.D. Schneider says those affected may receive text messages saying that you've been entered in a drawing at one of many stores. Stores mentioned are Target, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy.

The text message says that in order to claim the prize, you must go to a website and enter a PIN. You are then directed to enter personal information such as full name, date of birth and address.

Sheriff Schneider says the people behind the scam then collect personal information to access other accounts.

This is a nationwide scam, according to the Sheriff. He says it has been reported to the Better Business Bureau and the FBI.

The Sheriff advises anyone who gets one of these messages to delete it immediately.
