ANTRIM CO. -- Charges have been filed in the death of Diane Shafer of Central Lake.

Shafer, a Central Lake School assistant, died on December 7 after being in a coma since a November 23 crash on Alba Highway in Antrim County.

Police reports show a suspected drunk driver crossed the center line, hitting the van Shafer and her husband were in.

Thomas Joseph Altobelli has been charged with Operating while Intoxicated causing death, Operating while Intoxicated causing serious injury, and Operating with a high blood alcohol content.

Altobelli was arrested but has since been let out on bond.

If found guilty of the OWI causing death, Altobelli could face 15 years behind bars. Driving intoxicated causing injury is a 5-year felony and operating with a high blood alcohol faces 180 days behind bars.
