Question How does The Village at Bay Ridge Retirement Community differ from a Senior Apartment Complex or Senior Housing? Answer Being a Continuum of Care Community makes us different from anyone else in the Grand Traverse area. Unlike most Senior Housing or Apartment Complex’s, The Village at Bay Ridge offers many Community areas. Independent Living features a Library Lounge with fireplace and grand piano, Game Room, Miniature Theater, Computer Room, Arts and Crafts area, Health and Fitness equipment room, and the Lobby for gathering. The Assisted Living Center has smaller versions of many of these areas for residents to enjoy. Question What opportunities are there for playing cards and other games? Answer The Independent Living Activities Director has scheduled ongoing games of Bingo, Bunko, Bridge, Pinochle, Euchre, Cribbage, Scrabble, and Dominos. A Pool Table is available in the game room. Assisted Living’s Life Enrichment Coordinator incorporates many of these activities into their schedule. If you would like to start a new activity, the Staff will be happy to help you find like minded residents. Question In Independent Living, what is included in my rent? Answer In the Independent Living, we include indoor mail delivery, indoor trash receptacle, basic extended cable television, coin free laundry rooms, water and sewer, and an emergency call system in every bedroom and every bathroom. You are responsible for your own heat, electric and telephone. Question In Assisted Living, what is included in my rent? Answer Your rent will depend on two items: the size of the apartment you choose and the level of care you need. The Studio, one bedroom and one bedroom suites all include private bath, large bay window, and pull cord call system. Larger apartments even have a kitchenette. Your rent includes three home cooked meals a day and snacks, medication management, laundry, housekeeping, many in house activities and most importantly, a friendly, cheerful, around the clock awake staff. Question Is it hard to move from Independent Living to Assisted Living when I need it? Answer The Village at Bay Ridge is a Continuum of Care Community so when you need or want Assisted Living it is an easy transfer. Your Assessment interview will determine your care level, and you choose your apartment size. If the Assisted Living Center is full, you take precedence on the waiting list, because you already live on campus. When the next apartment of your choice comes available, your family can move you in at your convenience. Question My kids don’t want me to drive anymore, but how will I get around? Answer The Bay Ridge Independent Living offers a 25 passenger bus that makes regular trips for grocery shopping, banking, and to the library and malls. We also offer planned special outings to local entertainment, restaurants and other local attractions. Question I don’t think I’m ready for Assisted Living yet, but sometimes I just don’t want to do it all. Can I get help? Answer The Independent Living offers two meals a day available, Monday – Friday, housekeeping, laundry services, hair salon and handyman services on a “pay as you use” basis. Simply call the front desk and place your request. We will fulfill it as soon as possible. Question Can my family stay with me when they come to visit? Answer Of course, this is your home! If your apartment isn’t large enough to accommodate your family, we have a beautiful Guest Suite with two queen size beds that is furnished like a fine hotel, for them to rent. Question Do you require a lease? Answer Yes, for our independent living the usual lease is for 12 months. After that you may have a month-to-month lease. We also have furnished and unfurnished apartments available for short term seasonal leases of 4-6 months. It is the perfect way to “try us out” if you are not totally sure retirement living is for you. Our assisted living does not require a lease. Question Is The Village at Bay Ridge Retirement Community and Bay Ridge Assisted Living Center Licensed? Answer Yes, Bay Ridge Assisted Living is licensed by the State of Michigan and is regularly inspected. Our Independent Living is regularly inspected by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
