Question Who is a good candidate for 6 Month Smiles orthodontic treatment? Answer Adults and teenagers who have stopped growing are good candidates. 6 Month Smiles is not for children and teenagers who are still growing. 6 Month Smiles treatment can correct mild to moderate crowding or spacing, and minor crossbites. 6 Months Smiles treatment is not intended to address overbites, or severe crowding and spaced cases. These are best handled by an Orthodontist. An example of an ideal 6 Month Smiles candidate is an adult who has overlapped front teeth and an otherwise healthy mouth. Some cases take less time and some take a few months more. If I don’t believe the case can be completed in 9 months or less I will refer that case to an Orthodontist. So, the first reason is case selection. The second reason is that by using brackets and wires the case can be completed faster because there are constant light forces on the teeth. Finally, the goal of 6 Month Smiles treatment is cosmetically driven. We are not trying to “perfect” one’s bite but rather improve it esthetically and this results in less treatment time. Answer Invisalign is the tooth movement performed by a series of clear trays that are processed in a lab. 6 Month Smiles treatment uses brackets and wires which allows for more control over the tooth movement by the doctor. Both are esthetically pleasing as Invisalign uses clear trays, and 6 Month Smiles utilizes clear brackets and tooth colored wires. Because you cannot eat with the Invisalign trays they a subject to being lost where as the brackets are bonded to your teeth. Link: http://www.gtsmilecenter.com/orthodontic.php.
