Whooping cough cases are on the rise in Northern Michigan.
So far this year there have been three cases of whooping cough, otherwise known as Pertussis in Northwest Michigan.
Health department officials say this number is up since last year for the region. In 2012 there were no known cases in this area.
The total number of cases around the country has seen a sharp increase in the last year. In Michigan there were 847 cases and one infant died.
“The best way to protect young infants is to ensure everyone around them is vaccinated,” Dr. Joshua Meyerson explained.

The Health Department of Northwest Michigan offers the Tdap shot at its clinics in Bellaire, Charlevoix, Gaylord, Harbor Springs/Petoskey, and Mancelona.
