I am a long time sufferer of C.O.P.D. (20+ years,) and in 2006 I made an amazing discovery. I found that inflating an air mattress by mouth, a mattress with a partially blocked air passage, had a dramatic effect on my lung performance. So B.O.B. was born. My doctor recommeded that I use B.O.B. by doing ten repetitions everyday to stregthen the muscles that cause removal of phlegm. He likened the repetitions to working with barbells to build strength. And it worked! I hope that you enjoy using B.O.B. and gain an improved lung function as I have. Sincerely, Thomas Schoech
Why we need B.O.B.
For Stronger Coughing Muscles The inventor’s experience is that B.O.B. strengthens those muscles, mainly the diaphragm, abdominal and internal intercostal muscles, which cause the removal of phlegm from the bronchial tubes and airways when coughing. B.O.B. works on the isometric principal of exercise: muscles exercise “when caused to work against each other, or a fixed object” (Oxford). Like all muscle workouts, it takes 10-12 weeks for the forced air expiration muscles to strengthen. B.O.B. is tamper proof. The single hole design insures the optimum condition for productive isometric exercise.
For the Lungs The inventor’s experience is that B.O.B. causes sluggish air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs to work more efficiently, helping lungs produce more oxygenated blood per breath, lowering the heart rate. Breathing (inhaling and exhaling) takes in oxygen and removes carbon dioxide from the blood, which takes place in the lung’s air sacs. The lungs saturate the blood with oxygen. The blood is then transported through the body by the pumping of the heart.
If the oxygen level falls below what the body needs, the heart speeds up and breathing may increase so the oxygenated blood will reach all areas of the body faster. Heart rates will remain elevated when lungs cannot produce enough blood-oxygen per breath to sustain a normal heart rate. An ongoing elevated heart rate may contribute to an enlarged heart, congestive heart failure and possibly death.
A person with lung and/or heart complications may not necessarily feel low levels of oxygen in the blood. A Pulse Oximeter will aid in monitoring a person’s blood oxygen levels, and may gauge the increase of blood oxygen levels through the continued use of B.O.B.
