7&4 News met with one sergeant's parents Friday afternoon to get their reaction and we spoke via phone to the himself.

EAST JORDAN -- For Nick and Deneille Moes of East Jordan, it was waiting for a phone call Thursday evening to hear about their son, Sergeant Dominic Moes that was the most agonizing.

"I just sat on the couch and prayed.  I didn't turn on the news.  I think I was scared...scared of what I might see," says Deneille Moes.

"It was about ten to four when we heard.  I got a telephone call saying he was outside, safe.  He was saying he wishes he was inside and doing something but I was relieved he was outside away from it all," says Nick Moes.

The Moes are now able to breath a sigh a relief that their son Sergeant Moes, a public relations officer at Fort Hood is safe.

"For me I was still anxious even when I heard him on the other end of the phone.  I was so anxious," says Deneille Moes.

7&4 News also spoke via phone to Sergeant Moes Friday morning about what he experienced at Fort Hood.

"I actually went out to snag a late lunch and as I was coming back they closed the gates...a radio station started talking about the shootings.  The actual information was few and far between," says Sergeant Moes.

It was information that Sergeant Moes says left everyone in complete shock.

"Pretty much everybody was on phones and the whole base was locked down...everybody is in shock and you don't expect this stuff to happen at home," says Sergeant Moes.

Deneille Moes has a similar reaction...

"There's just no words, no words to say for the loss of life and the breech of trust. You feel safe and then suddenly its not safe anymore.  Our hearts really go out to the families who were really affected in this who lost a son or daughter.  I cannot imagine," says Deneille Moes.

Sergeant Moes has worked as a public relations officer at Fort Hood for two years.  Before that he was stationed as a military police officer in Iraq.
