CHEBOYGAN -- The Cheboygan Public Safety Department will soon be operating with less officers.

Cheboygan city leaders adopted a budget that would leave enough funding for six officers. That means the department will be laying off two people from its force starting next Thursday.

The police chief says this may cause some scheduling issues and the department may have to cutback on some community outreach for non criminal matters.

Earlier this month, the Cheboygan County Commissioners turned down a plan that would combine law enforcement services between the city and county.
