Little Traverse Bay Humane Society Offers Free Sterilizations for Pit Bull and Pit Bull Mixes in Emmet County

Little Traverse Bay Humane Society is offering free sterilizations through its “Pit Stop Program” for pit bull and pit bull mixes living in Emmet County thanks to a $20,000 grant from PetSmart Charities®. Little Traverse Bay Humane Society created The Pit Stop program to decrease the reproduction rates of pit bulls and pit bull mixes. Anyone who owns one of these breeds simply has to visit the shelter, fill out a voucher, and make an appointment at the Pellston Animal Clinic. At no charge to the owner, the dog will be sterilized, micro-chipped and vaccinated for rabies. Residents with pit bull or pit bull mixes living in Emmet County can call 347.2396 to get more information about getting a free sterilization. “This is truly a life-saving program and we are thrilled to have the support of PetSmart Charities to help us achieve our goal of spaying/neutering 200 pit bulls and pit bull mixes by the end of 2013,” said Deter Racine, Little Traverse Bay Humane Society executive director. “We hope that pit bull or pit bull mix owners in Emmet County will take advantage of this program to help reduce the number of pits that end up in shelters or worse, get euthanized.”
Little Traverse Bay Humane Society is a 501(c)3 organization that relies solely upon grant funding and donations to offer free to low-cost sterilization services for pet owners in the community. For more information, please call 347.2396.About Little Traverse Bay Humane Society
