Locally owned Cherry Stop of Traverse City announced today that it will close its doors at its current location January 6, 2013, to move next door and reopen as Old Mission Traders. Old Mission Traders will continue the Cherry Stop’s objective of featuring Michigan-made gourmet foods, wine and beer, and gift items.Owners Jamie and Nick Roster will continue to produce the Cherry Stop product line, which will still be handcrafted in their store on Front Street using Michigan-grown fruits. They will also begin to introduce new gourmet foods under the Old Mission Traders name. “Michigan is second only to California in terms of agricultural diversity, and we want to showcase that in the Old Mission Traders product line,” says Nick Roster.In addition to Michigan-made specialty foods, the store’s selection of gifts for kitchen, home and more will continue to grow, with a primary focus on items produced by Michigan companies. Owner Jamie Roster is excited to begin growing the gift selections in the store. “During our seven years at Cherry Stop, we have offered a wide selection of handcrafted and unique Michigan-made gift items, from kitchen to bath and body to handmade baby items and more. We look forward to expanding those product lines beyond the cherry theme.” The ever-expanding Michigan wine and beer selection will also remain a fixture of the store.Cherry Stop was opened in 1995, and the Rosters bought the established business in 2005. Since that time they have made many changes, including taking over production of their jams, salsas, barbecue sauces and more at their in-store kitchen. January 5, 2013 will be the final day for Cherry Stop.
