TRAVERSE CITY -- You can now clean out your medicine cabinet and get rid of your unused and expired prescriptions in a safe way.

The Grand Traverse County Resource Recovery Department is holding a collection for unused prescription medications.  It will be held at the Traverse City Holiday Inn (West Entrance) On Friday, Nov. 6 from 10:00-3:00 p.m.

Officials say Operation Medicine Cabinet is a program to help protect seniors from accidently using expired medications as well as safeguarding them from the potential of theft from their homes. It also helps keep prescription medications from being disposed of through the sewage system, which could potentially show up in rivers, waterways, and ground water.

The event is sponsored by Northern Michigan office of Home Instead Senior Care with help from the Grand Traverse County Sheriffs Department, Traverse City Police Department, The Prescription
Shop, Life Story Funeral Home, Great Lakes Pet Memorial and Cremation and the Traverse City
Holiday Inn.
