| Women over 40 years old are more likely to get breast cancer. The best things to do to combat these risks are to get a mammogram and a clinical breast exam every year at age 40 or older.
The following know factors can increase a woman's chance of developing breast cancer:
- Having breast cancer before
- Pre-cancerous cells in breast lumps
- Early first period and late menopause
- Obesity after menopause
- Recent use of oral birth control estrogens and progestins
- Never having children
- Having children after age 30
- Use of alcoholic beverages
