Stranded on the side of an interstate highway at night in the rain is the wrong time to think about finding a reliable auto mechanic.
So when is the right time, before you notice anything wrong with your car at all.
Finding a mechanic that won’t take advantage of your automotive ignorance may be a bit scary; here are a few simple tips to take some of the fear out of the process.
- Try to get a recommendation from a friend or relative. If you have references from several people who have had a good experience with a particular mechanic, you should be in good shape.
- Organizations like AAA or the National Institute for Auto Service Excellence can help you find a mechanic.
- Find a local dealer with numerous awards for service.
- Check with the Better Business Bureau, they know if a particular mechanic has had problems.
