Mark Watkins is the 7&4 Storm Team Chief Meteorologist.

Mark is an Emmy Award winning meteorologist who has been forecasting the weather for more than 20 years.

He spent 16 years as meteorologist for the number-one rated Eyewitness News Daybreak broadcast at WSOC TV in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mark’s first television job was in Bismarck, North Dakota. He also worked in San Francisco.

Mark received his B.A. in Political Science from Northwestern University in Illinois. He also received a B.S. with Great Distinction in Meteorology from San Jose State University in California. Mark also holds the Seal of Approval of the American Meteorological Society.

Mark grew up in a broadcast family. His dad owned and managed an AM radio station in Griffin, Georgia, for 50 years.

Mark has three children. His older son, Stewart, is a firefighter in Illinois. His daughter, Clair, plays basketball for Vanderbilt University. His younger son, Jackson, is still at home.


In his spare time, Mark plays the trombone, and enjoys cycling, swimming, reading and writing.

Snow, Wind, Icy Roads   

After cleaning up from one storm Wednesday, perhaps the biggest/most significant storm of the winter season is gearing up to blast northern Michigan with what could be for "some" locations upwards of 14-15" of snow by Saturday night.

The following counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory: Alcona, Alpena, Arenac, Antrim, Benzie, Crawford, Gladwin, Kalkaska, Manistee, Missaukee, Montmorency, Grand Traverse, Oscoda, Otsego, Roscommon, Wexford. The advisory remains in effect until 7pm.

Cold front this evening could bring severe weather   

This evening into the overnight, a strong cold front will sweep in another round of thunderstorms, primarily along/south of highway M-32 with the possibility of additional severe weather this evening.
